Explore the 16mm film collection of the Miami-Dade Library with this unique film screening of fiber-art related short films ranging from documentaries to stop motion adventures.
Between films we will be giving tours of our experimental contemporary quilting exhibition, Piecework Legacies, where we will highlight parallels from the film with the works we have in show.
Piecework Legacies includes artistic quilted contributions by artists Lauren Baccus, Regina Durante Jestrow, Bex McCharen, Emily Peters, Carrie Sieh, Pangea Kali Virga, and Carrington Ware.

SEWN COLLAGE WORKSHOP
AT THE BASS MUSEUM
I have been mining The Bass Museum for inspiration in my practice for years. So I’m excited to lead a creative workshop at the museum May 2nd where we will make sewn collages inspired by the Assume Vivid Astro Focus exhibition on view.
On Saturday May 2nd at 2pm I will teach a workshop combining paper collage and embroidery.

NEW NATURE STUDY EMBROIDERY HOOPS
I’m delighted to announce more of my works will be featured in Volume III exhibition of ARRAE Gallery in Coconut Grove. Stop by to shop from a selection of over two dozen Miami artists including a selection of my nature study embroidery hoop series.
These wall hangings come in sizes ranging from 6-12 inches and can be paired for floral arrangements or sold as standalone works. Each one is unique and highlights a native species from Miami and even some from Vietnam during my time in Hoi An.

Piecework Legacies: Experimental Quilting in South Florida
OPENING EVENT & PANEL DISCUSSION
Saturday April 18, 11am-2pm
Piecework Legacies brings together experimental quilted works by seven South Florida fiber artists who honor the history of quilting while pushing the form in new directions.
Featuring work by Lauren Baccus, Regina Durante Jestrow, Bex McCharen, Emily Peters, Carrie Sieh, Pangea Kali Virga, and Carrington Ware, the exhibition showcases a range of materials, processes, and conceptual approaches. Spanning disciplines, these works reflect the versatility of quilting as a contemporary art form.
Throughout the exhibition, quilts take on unexpected forms: soft sculpture, multimedia assemblage, personal archives, meditative pieces, and large-scale narratives. Many works incorporate reused and upcycled materials, engaging quilting’s connection to sustainability and resourcefulness. Through inventive uses of material, scale, technique, and imagery, the exhibition shows how quilting continues to evolve.
The exhibition also features a reading selection of more than seventy quilting books from the library’s collection. Public programs will include a screening of 16mm films on fiber art, May 30, 2026, 12pm-2pm.

CREATIVITY IN THE COMMUNITY

Creativity In The Community, the arts and literacy program for families with young children at Virrick Library starts back up on January 14th for 8 weeks, every Wednesday at 4pm. So glad to be teaching this with the Bass Museum again.
​​
​I have been teaching the Creativity In The Community classes at Virrick Library with the Bass Museum for a few years now and am delighted for another round of classes!
If you or someone you know has a young child come by for this FREE 8 part class series that includes a field trip to the Bass Museum for Family Day. Each class consists of a book reading session and corresponding art project. All families get copies of the book each week.

THE ANNUAL YARN-BOMB SHOW

Kern started this tradition of yarn tagging many years ago. Now every year in Wynwood during Art Week Kern organizes and installs fiber art tags for public display and taking.
I made my name as three flowers. They were created from upcycled billboard vinyl from the Bass Museum, hand-dyed turmeric bed sheets, interior design swatch faux leather, and leftover knit material from Krelwear.
Find the fence full of fiber art across the street from Love Life Cafe in Wynwood. Feel free to take one home if it really speaks to you.

I'm excited to announce I'll be on the roster for the group show, Cross Dissolve, at Dragon Crab Turtle Gallery in St.Louis MO curated by the one and only Mark Allen.

Dragon Crab and Turtle is pleased to present Cross Dissolve, a group exhibition curated by Mark Allen opening November 8, at its landmark St. Louis exhibition space. Bringing together 50 artists, the show highlights a wide-ranging roster from the Kansas City metro alongside voices from New York, Miami, and LA.
The title Cross Dissolve borrows from the language of video editing, describing the moment when one frame overlays another, gradually merging into a new image. Allen takes this idea as a curatorial metaphor, focusing on artists who occupy a similar in-between space – blurring mediums, collapsing conceptual frameworks, and fusing disparate systems of communication.
CURATING MY FIRST EXHIBITION
EXPERIMENTAL QUILTING SHOW FEATURING 7 MIAMI ARTISTS CO-CURATED BY NICO HOUGH AND PANGEA KALI VIRGA.
Quilts hold an essential place in the American art canon. Since the 1700s, quilting has been a creative tradition of community and continuity, most often carried forward by women-identified creators whose contributions went unrecognized by the wider art world until not long ago. This practice, rooted in storytelling, social justice, thoughtful reuse of old materials, (it stands as one of the earliest forms of artistic upcycling), and the spirit of collaboration across divides and generations have given the medium a remarkable staying power. This show presents seven contemporary female and non- binary local artists exploring the contemporary dimensions of this American tradition.
Piecework Legacies, highlights the work of 7 contemporary fiber artists and quilters including Lauren Baccus, Emily Peters, Bex McCharen, Regina Jestrow, Carrie Sieh, Carrington Ware, and myself.
The exhibition opens April 2026 at the Main Library Branch in downtown Miami. Piecework Legacies will be up for three months.
Nico Hough and I will be crafting a Piecework Legacies together and will create a corresponding catalog too!
We will be sharing sneak peeks of the show coming together online over these next few months.

Save the date to learn with me for another year at the Miami Book Fair.
I love the Book Fair for the countless books for purchase, the lectures, live performances, the incredible art installations and the thousands of attendees who make it so special.
I'll be doing family art workshops all weekend in Children's Alley.
The book fair also stopped by the studio this year to shoot some promo for this year's month long book festival. I loved having them over to chat all about my love for literature and community!

NEW COVER ART MADE BY ME FROM UPCYCLED MATERIALS

I'm delighted to share the newest issue of Edible South Florida with y'all which features my original sustainable upcycled fiber art of a compost pile on their cover.
The piece, Behold This Compost! Behold It Well! is inspired by the compost pile at my local farm and animal sanctuary Earth N' Us and the food scraps from locally grown produce. This wall hanging was made from interior design swatches, mesh fruit bags, glass beads, second hand fiber including army jackets and billboards, naturally hand-dyed fabrics, and hand-painted coffee stain.

KNIGHT FOUNDATION ART AND RESEARCH
ENVIRONMENTAL ART SEMINAR
I just completed another wonderful seminar series of the Knight Foundation Art and Research program at the ICA Museum and learned so much about environmentalist art, art as a motivator for change around climate, and left deeply inspired by my like-minded cohort.
Taught by Joshua Shannon and Stephanie Wakefield, this three day intensive focused on climate change, cultural production, and ecocriticism through a global lens. Bringing together scholars of art history, literature, and the visual arts, this seminar series explored the intersection between environment, art and literature to examine how aesthetic works shape our understanding of environmental issues. Seminars traced how the ongoing climate crisis has shifted our basic beliefs surrounding nature, human relationships, the non-human, the role of technology and its global manifestations across the world.

DEERING ESTATE SOLO EXHIBITION
TO BE DWELLERS WITH THIS LAND

My solo show at the Deering Estate To Be Dwellers With This Land opened on May 1st with a public reception on May 10th. The show consists of photos from the Estate taken by my friend and collaborator, Ryan Swartzlander, on massive silk and satin fabric prints that are then painstakingly fully embroidered and beaded by yours truly to create a textured painterly effect.

The Oolite Arts Residency Artist Exhibition, Between Here and Elsewhere just opened up on April 2nd 2025 and will be available to view for the next few months. The opening was fabulous and was paired with an Open Studio event so everyone could see where the magic happens. You can see I Watch the Illusion With Unbearable Compassion on view as part of the show. Corresponding programming will be announced soon. I'll be hosting a series of fiber art classes led by me at Oolite that will cover some of the fiber techniques incorporated into the exhibited works.

EXOTERICA: AN ANTHOLOGY
My work, I Watch The Illusion With Unbearable Compassion, is now the inside cover of the new anthology, Exoterica, by Cantine Press.

Cantine Press is a new experiment in publishing. Founded in 2024 and based in Oakland, California. The press is collecting works by new and established writers, and are especially keen to feature bay area locals. Cantine will publish in multiple languages, beginning with English, French, and Spanish. Paper back and hand-bound Special Edition versions of the publications are available for pre-order now online.

Every year Green Space Miami produces an open call for Miami artists awarding 10 artists a grant of $5,000. Selected artworks are brought together in a group show accompanied by a program of talks, performances and activations.

For the fourth edition of Green Space Miami’s open call, artists are encouraged to delve into myriad dimensions of power, unravel its intricacies, question its structures, challenge its assumptions, or celebrate its potential for transformative change. The aim is to inspire a deeper understanding of this fundamental aspect of the human condition and provoke new insights into the complexities of power.

CAMP GALLERY EXHIBITION

The Contemporary Art Modern Project (The CAMP Gallery) is pleased to announce the opening of 77 Women Pulling at The Threads of Social Discourse, FAMA and Guests: We Got The Power. The exhibition is curated by gallery founder and director, Melanie Prapopoulos, and assistant director Maria Gabriela Di Giammarco.

Opening October 11, 2024, the sixth edition of this exhibition series draws inspiration from Lysistrata by Aristophanes, and Spike Lee’s response to organized violence in Chi-Raq. Honoring the play and its era, over 100 pieces were made for the open call, all touching on themes of violence, war, sexual power, the patriarchy, and the power of women. These artworks will be installed as a continuous frieze throughout our gallery space, up until December 20th.

ECOTOPIA SCULPTURE WORKSHOP
JOIN ME TO CREATE A COLLECTIVE AND COLLABORATIVE UPCYCLED SCULPTURE
Join sustainability advocates and local artists Pangea Kali Virga and Dayna Cortes for a Sculpting Workshop using upcycled single-use plastic and waste items. During our five-hour workshop learn how to craft windchimes, dazzling flowers and plants, and other hanging sculptures that will adorn the Banyan Tree in Vizcaya Village to create a collective and collaborative sculpture!
We will be using items like plastic water bottles, plastic to-go containers, twigs, scrap fabrics and assembling and decorating them with paint, stickers, washi tape, and more!

ECOTOPIA CYANOTYPE WORKSHOP
Join fiber artist Pangea Kali Virga and ReCreate Miami for a 2 ½ hour Cyanotype Workshop at Vizcaya Village where we will create unique Cyanotypes on paper and fabrics. Cyanotypes are a UV reactive dyeing process that creates beautiful Prussian blueprints. Create original collage art with this technique using harvested florals and foliage from South Florida! We will be crafting our Cyanotypes on thick paper which can be framed and hung as original art as well as on fabric squares to use as patches or to be hung on rods as fiber art!

ECOTOPIA PLANTING WORKSHOP
JOIN ME WHILE WE PLANT CUTTINGS, DESIGN PLANT POTS,A ND MAKE MACRAME PLANT HOLDERS.
Join sustainability advocate Pangea Kali Virga and Corinne of Miami Seed Share for a 3-hour Planting Workshop! All ages are welcome to stop by to decorate and design their own plant pots made from upcycled materials. Then fill them with native, medicinal, and edible plants! Get creative and learn all about plant care and our beautiful South Florida ecosystem.
Come to be inspired by waste as we craft beautiful plant pots out of water bottles, cans, takeout containers, and other single-use plastic items. We will finish the workshop by making macrame plant hangers for our new plants out of scrap fabrics. Participants will be provided with all materials as well as a seed paper gift to start your own pollinator garden at home.

ECOTOPIA EVENT SERIES
CREATIVE DIRECTION AND PRODUCTION BY PANGEA KALI VIRGA WITH VIZCAYA MUSEUM AND GARDENS
Vizcaya Museum and Gardens continues the tradition of summer art-
making workshops with the launch of Pangea Kali Virga’s Ecotopia, an artistic space
and series of FREE workshops focused on promoting creativity, collaboration, and
sustainability. This initiative emphasizes that anyone can be an artist and that we can
all make a difference in caring for our community and the environment.
“It is all made possible through shared resources and shared effort-- and most
importantly, shared fun,” says Kali Virga, the creative mind behind the series.
“Ecotopia puts art and environment at the front of the conversation on how to
strengthen and build our communities. All are invited to come join us to build our
cooperative Utopian Town Square.”
The program is made up of eight community art events covering different disciplines,
from painting and cooking to sewing and planting, as well as a Finale Town Square
Festival. The workshops take place from July 8 through Jul 30, 2023, in the historic
garage at Vizcaya Village.
The series is designed to highlight sustainable practices, the unique ecology of South
Florida and the act of sharing with a cumulative finale -- the Utopic Town Square
Festival. The finale festival event will take place at Vizcaya Village on Sunday, August
6, 2023, from 9am to 2:00pm.

ART RESIDENCY EXHIBITION
BONES OF A STORY FEATURING MY DIPTYCH
I’ve never put so much of my heart and soul into a creation as I have into my quilt, HISTORY WILL ALWAYS FIND YOU AND WRAP YOU IN ITS THOUSAND ARMS.
This piece encapsulates my entire autobiographical past, my ancestral past, the concept of past, and so much more. It’s rich in texture and symbolism, like a visual fiber art novel of my tribulations and traumas, my triumphs and losses, my forgiveness, my closure, my faith in my past self. It’s dense and made with so much archetypal imagery it can possibly read like a story of your own making too.
Working on this quilt has been a vehicle for change, my physical labor matching my emotional labor. I do this not to forget, but to embrace.
This art work will be completed after a year (lifetime) of hard work for its grand debut at THE MOCA MUSEUM for the PROJECTART Resident Artist exhibition, Bones Of A Story on May 26.
BLUE CHIPS GROUP SHOW
GROUP SHOW OF MIAMI ARTISTS AT THE CLUB GALLERY
BLUE CHIPS is a POP UP exhibition that serves as a prelude to Philip Lique’s 2023 Art Deli. Both a fundraiser and group exhibition- BLUE CHIPS will be held at CLUB Gallery (Miami).
Come to our fabulous opening on May 5th from 6-10pm. I'll be there shmoozing and it would be lovely to see y'all.
I really love the two works I made specially for the show composed of romantic scraps of lace, tulle, and chiffon. Hand beaded with love and collaged to perfection. And fully upcycled of course!
All the works in the show are $500. Support incredibly talented local artists and the upcoming Art Deli project by showing some love with your presence!
