"Only work which is the product of inner compulsion can have spiritual meaning".-Walter Gropius
The ‘Inner Compulsion’ fashion collection, inspired by the Bauhaus movement draws inspiration from the linear graphic aesthetic traditionally aligned with the Bauhaus school combined with a flair for the chaotic and layered. Special attention was paid to the overlooked female figures in the Bauhaus movement and their gridded, patchworked, maximalist fiber works, often made of unusual upcycled materials. The Inner Compulsion collection is made entirely of upcycled materials such as shower curtains, deconstructed sculpture, donated second-hand garments, and more creatively reworked to become a new textile and garment. Each scrap and thread cut during the process is reintegrated into new designs until every element is used completely, resulting in a radical zero waste process.
This collection was made for the West 18th St Fashion Show's feature length art film, Summer In Hindsight and was filmed at the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art.
The fashion collection was handmade in Miami at Fountainhead Artist Studios.
